Hasbro Summer Learning Initiative

What is the Hasbro Summer Learning Initiative?: The Hasbro Summer Learning Initiative was created to provide youth with ample learning opportunities outside of the classroom during summer vacation.
What problems does HSLI address?: HSLI or the Hasbro Summer Learning Initiative provides youth for a place to go during six weeks of their summer vacation. This addresses the problem of where youth may go and spend their time during the summer. This helps lower the amount of worry and anxiety of parents who may not be able to afford summer camps and child care for youth.
Another problem HSLI addresses is the problem with youth and the lack of learning and critical thinking that occurs over the summer. HSLI provides youth with several learning initiatives including reading, math, and other disciplines such as science, art, music. They meet this need by doing what youth need and by making it fun and approachable.
YDEV Anchors: I believe the YDEV anchors of purposeful play and care align with HSLI. Care aligns by how HSLI gives youth ample opportunities to learn during the summer in creative and innovative ways. This is how purposeful play is intertwined. Youth are learning through purposeful play.
Who is Eligible?: Youth in grades 3, 4, and 5 are eligible and allowed by invitation only.
Partnerships and Collaboration: The HSLI allows for partnerships and collaboration with the community and many youth centered non- profit organizations around the state. For example, the HSLI is collaborating with the Kent County YMCA this summer for a summer learning initiative at Deering Middle School in West Warwick.
What components are required for grant proposal: There are several components required for grant proposal including applicants being able to work towards Live United 2020 goals, applicants will measure the youths social- emotional and health and wellness outcomes.
Plus, Minus, Delta: A plus is I think it is great that a summer learning opportunity is available to youth. A Minus is the eligibility requirements. A Delta includes having a longer than six week program and changing eligibility requirements.
